Poole area general
In the Poole area offshore banks can be fished with
good results in the early spring for large numbers
of good size spurdogs (pregnant females must be
returned) (click to see pic 1). In the late spring bass arrive and can be
fished for during most of the summer. Good blond rays are caught here throughout
the year.
On small tides and calm days we can
anchor by offshore wrecks with great results for
good numbers of pollack and large conger eels
Pic 2 & 3).
On small tides mid range reefs offer
mixed fishing for smoothounds, rays, bass, eels &
bream (click to
see pic 4).
Bream fishing
Bream are very prolific around Poole on the many
inshore reefs and mixed ground, they can be caught
from April until October
pic 5). In the
same areas bass can also be targeted but this does
take more patience
pic 6). We operate a
policy of returning all large Bass i.e. over 8lb.
We have a great deal of success over
inshore flat ground with good numbers of
rays, bonus bass and the chance of small turbot or
brill, these are all best fished for with
light tackle (click
to see pic 7). We return all female
and large male rays.
Tope fishing
The tope fishing from Poole can be a very enjoyable
day out drifting with medium to light tackle, it is
not uncommon for us to catch over 40 double figure
fish (click to
see pic 8).
Winter
In the winter we mainly target cod and whiting but
good numbers of eels & bonus large pollack can
also be caught at this time of year
pic 9).
At
certain times of the year when weather conditions
don't allow us to go to sea some very good fishing
can be had in the harbour for large numbers of bream
plus guernards,plaice,mackeral,red mullett,bass and
my personal favorite guilt head bream
